Description

Purpose of Position

 

To clean the buildings and grounds of the City of Oxford

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Supervision Received

            The Grounds Supervisor supervises this position.

 

Supervision Exercised

            The incumbent has supervisory responsibility over Grounds Workers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Empty all garbage cans daily and take out trash
  • Vacuum all carpets daily
  • Sweep/mop lobby and all tile and marble floors
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms daily
  • Clean glass on front entry and rear door daily
  • Sweep off front and back steps and remove trash
  • Remove trash and cigarette butts form sand in ashtrays
  • Clean kitchen daily
  • Mow lawn and weed-eat flowerbeds
  • Fertilize grass and trees
  • Trim tree branches
  • Plant trees
  • Trim hedges
  • Clean interior of building
  • Set-up and tear-down tables and chairs for coordinated events

 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Maintain the interior and exterior of Conference Center buildings as directed
  • Dust and polish furniture as needed

Knowledge:

 

Proper grammar and proper use of English in speaking and writing

OSHA standards and regulations concerning employee safety

Federal and state statutes concerning the work of the department

Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication

Meet specified or required deadlines

Communicate effectively with residents, elected officials, other City employees, etc.,

Special Requirements

 

Valid Mississippi Driver License

 

Tools and Equipment Used

 

Indoors tools and equipment consists of push mops, brooms, dusters and sweepers. Outdoors equipment consists of seeders, weed eaters, mowers. Trimmers, etc.

 

Physical Demands

 

Physical work involved with this position includes, but is not limited to, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and bending.

 

Work Environment

 

The Building and Grounds Worker is a full-time permanent position in the Building and Grounds

Department.  The immediate supervisor for this position is the Building and Grounds Superintendent.  The Building and Grounds Worker works regular hours year-round with occasional overtime.  There is some evening, night and weekend work for this position. The work for this position is in and outdoors.  There is no exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials. The person in this position is supervised on a daily basis. The stress level associated with this position is low.
