Purpose of Position

 

To clean and maintain the buildings and grounds of the City of Oxford

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

 

Supervision Received

The immediate supervisor for this position is the Building and Grounds Superintendent. 

 

Supervision Exercised

             none

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Maintain city streets and sidewalks

Clean allies

Wash the streets

Pick up all paper and other debris from City streets and sidewalks

 

Maintain City grounds

Mow lawn and weed-eat flowerbeds

Fertilize grass and trees

Trim tree branches

Plant trees

Trim hedges

Clean interior of building

 

Maintain City golf course

Mow and weed-eat golf course

Put the right chemicals on the greens

Water the greens

Plant grass and fertilize once a month

Keep records of gas purchases and hours on machines

 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

 

Purchase departmental parts and supplies

Maintain an inventory list of parts and supplies

 

Receive authorization to make departmental purchases

Set up seasonal decorations for the City

Maintain the interior and exterior of City department buildings as directed

Perform other duties as directed


 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

 

Knowledge:

 

Layout of City streets

Proper grammar and proper use of English in speaking and writing

OSHA standards and regulations concerning employee safety

Federal and state statutes concerning the work of the department

Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication

General functions and operations of municipal government

 

Skills and Abilities:

 

Work as a team member with other employees

Meet specified or required deadlines

Communicate effectively with residents, elected officials, other City employees, etc., both oral and written

Maintain confidentiality

Work autonomously when necessary

Handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions

Maintain professional composure in heated situations

Follow departmental and City policies and procedures

 

Special Requirements

The person in this position must have a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or its equivalency.

The tools used are associated with operations of small equipment used to maintain lawns and gardens such as mower, edger, etc.
